INTRODUCTION
One objective of the Prairie Adaptation Research Collaborative (PARC) is to promote and
coordinate collaborative research among sectors and disciplines on climate change impacts
and adaptation. One method for promoting such collaborative research is to provide
access to a variety of environmental data sets. This page includes a number of links
to data available on the world wide web and data collected and created by PARC and its
many partners.
The data sets currently available here include a number which may
not appear directly climate-oriented. Including these data sets serves two purposes.
First, it illustrates the types of data available over the world wide web and,
second, it provides data that is required for simulating the complex interactions between
climate and the physical environment.
Although climate change is a global phenomenon, PARC is primarily
interested in understanding the potential impacts of climate change on the Canadian
Prairie Provinces. Therefore, the data sets provided here are only for the Canadian
Prairie Provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba).
The data sets available include interactive maps, videos, and
graphs. The data sets include links to both the data provider's website and any
valuable metadata.
Many of the data sets available require a "one-time"
Java download. The java software provides the interactive capability of the on-line
mapping software implemented. In addition to viewing online, data sets are available for manipulation using ESRI's ArcExplorer software.
NOTES:
Installation of the java software requires following a procedure which is outlined at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
Once you have installed the java software follow these instructions.
We recommend downloading ArcExplorer. Downloading the program installs both the "Explorer" program and the java-download required to view interactive maps.
Due to the capacity of our present server, only a few data sets are currently being served. The remaining data sets will be served when we implement a new server. We hope to have our new server up-and-running soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.
